A chaos in WSU, one victim shot dead.

The South African Police Services (SAPS), in the Eastern Cape confirmed the shooting incident that occurred on the morning of 15 April 2025, at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU), Mthatha Campus. It was reported that a student was shot dead and another one injured allegedly by the residence manager. It was further reported a commotion started after students started mobilizing them. Amongst complaints of the students included complaining about the bad state of their residence.


It alleged that at about 07h00 early on Tuesday morning the students went to the residence manager who stays within the institution with his family to confront him about the poor state of the residence. It further alleged that the residence manager shot two male students, one died on the scene and another one survived and he was rushed to hospital. It’s when students mobilized and in the process the residence manager’s car was set alight and his wife hit on the head with a hard object. Family was rescued by Mthatha Public Order Policing.

By the time we were reporting the police were still at Walter Sisulu University trying to maintain order whilst the students were still showing no turning back in their action, as they were preventing the police from going to the crime scene and getting more information.
