The Princess of amaMpondo from Matshona in Lwandlolubomvu, Ntabankulu, Princess Stella Sigcau III, the eldest daughter of Nkosi Jongilanga Sigcau was selected for the national netball squad during the netball tournament that took place over the weekend in Cape Town to play for Universities Sports South African (USSA) team. The 19-year-old tourism student at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is good in sport as she is excelling in volleyball as well as in netball where she was selected to represent the nation.
At this point in time Princess Stella III, made her presence felt in court of play, whilst she was playing for NMU netball squad, as a result got selected.
Meanwhile, her talent germinated at her early age, when she enrolled at Bloemfontein South High to start her senior education, the volleyball coach spotted her and her sister Princess ZamaFaku II and encouraged them to try their luck in this sport. Within her first season, Sigcau caught the eye of the provincial selectors and was drafted into the Free State team for a tourney in Cape Town. It was the event that opened her eyes to both technical and tactical nuances of the sport.
Speaking after her selection the ecstatic Princess said, “I didn’t expect anything like that, especially after my first USSA tournament.” she said. With the USSA’s ticked off, Sigcau is eager to put in place what she has learnt from competing against the best in the country.
