Even the athletic club from the rural dusty town of EmaXesibeni, XJ Athletic Club was also part of the 2025, Comrade Marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban that was won by Tete Dijana and Gerda Steyn recently. XJ AC sent a regiment of 35 runners that were composed of five females and they all emerged as finishers both males and females.
The General Secretary of the club Mwanda Mpiti said this is a tremendous growth and success for the club. “This is a huge accomplishment for the team formed in 2018 and had a 2-year break because of COVID 19 pandemic. As the runners we are grateful for the support we receive from our communities and families. This shows we are not just a club that grows in numbers but the quality of athletes we are producing. We will definitely attack with a double regiment next year”, concluded Mpiti.
