Flagstaff Square, the biggest and first shopping complex in the town of Flagstaff, is celebrating its third birthday since opening in 2021. To celebrate the milestone, Flagstaff Square is rewarding its customers from 28 October 2024 with a selection of prizes and vouchers. Flagstaff Square has always put its community first. They have a committed themselves to investing in and changing the lives of the Flagstaff community through local development.

Community outreach programs that have taken place in the past three years include Back to School campaigns every January, for the most vulnerable and needy children. Donations that have been made include school uniforms, school shoes and other basic dignity items like toothbrushes, school bags and sanitary towels. In addition, Flagstaff Square has a monthly donation program where they identify disadvantaged homes or child headed homes and supply them with basic necessities. “We sponsor a R5000 voucher to cater for their needs on a monthly rotational basis,” said the Center Manager, Luvo Tobela.

We also run competitions over specific days where shoppers win vouchers from selected stores. These special days include the Christmas period, Valentines’ Day, Easter Holidays, and Mothers’ Day. The Centre also works with different local NPO’s to assist and equip youth in various disciplines.

Tobela revealed that, during Mandela month, they work with local SAPS in hosting a two-week long netball and soccer tournament. Under the theme “Sport against crime”, we give away prizes to the winners, and in addition, involve community leaders and SAPS to inform and educate our youth on the dangers of criminal activities.

After observing the struggles, the community faced in accessing clean running water, Flagstaff Square is constructing a borehole that will cater to the community of Esigubudwini. “The project was unfortunately stalled after the solar panels were stolen a week after installation began. “However, we are still devising means to complete the project with plans to deter such criminal activities,” concluded Luvo.
