The former students at Jojo High School, which is known as Jojo High Alumni Reunion Association (JOHARA) in EmaXesibeni (formerly known as Mt Ayliff) took drastic steps embarking on a mission to restore the dignity of their former high school. Jojo High is a well-known and oldest high school in EmaXesibeni situated in Dundee location along the N2 to Kokstad. It produced a number of well-educated people locally and outside the town of EmaXesibeni.
The JOHARA delegates visited the high school recently, where they received a warm welcome by the School Management Team (SMT). The purpose of the visit was to inspect the situation of the school, so that they would take further steps to assist in changing the state of the school.
The founder and coordinator of the initiative Tulisile Hlatshwayo-Mnukwa, said their visit in the school had some mixed reactions as it was such a happy or sad moment. “We noticed that the school has changed for the worse, it is overcrowded. There are not enough classes. The school furniture was not enough, some of the learners wrote on their laps. Teachers are unable to move around the classroom because of overcrowded classes”, said Hlatshwayo-Mnukwa. After seeing this she said they are still planning to intervene by involving other stakeholders to help by donating temporal structures and furniture. She also stressed that they have other plans from their own alumni to change the face of their former school.
