After receiving a complaint about the hijacked vehicle the police quickly identified a suspicious vehicle without registration plates having four occupants in the Balasi gravel road on Tuesday, 15 July 2025 and quickly immobilized it.
According to the police Spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo on searching the four male occupants aged between 23-45, all from Qumbu, two were found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol each (erased serial numbers) with nineteen live rounds in total. On vehicle circulation, it transpired that the vehicle belongs to the Department of Health (GD6, 2.8 Toyota bakkie that was hijacked in Idutywa on Friday 11 July 2025. Cpt Matyolo said on preliminary investigation, the arrested suspects were on a stock theft mission.
The arrested suspects led the police to other four male suspects of Nxothwe locality aged 25-48, where forty-two sheep were recovered which were allegedly stolen in Ndasala locality in Qumbu. All the arrested suspects are expected to appear before Qumbu magistrate court soon for charges ranging from possession of unlicensed firearms to possession of suspected stolen stock/ sheep and stolen vehicle.
