This year’s LCM Ludidi Memorial Fun Run/Walk, which was held recently in KwaBhaca, Eastern Cape, has shown a rapid growth, as it drew over 300 participants from far afield as Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg as well as from neighbouring countries like Lesotho. More than 20 running and fitness clubs were well-presented, and the day was blended by fitness, fun, and future-building with runners, walkers, students, sponsors, and small businesses all showing up in full force. The event proved to be a powerful tribute to the legacy of the late Mr & Mrs LCM Ludidi.
The highlight of the day was the 21 kilometre main race, where Cwenga Nose of Pantane Athletics Club delivered an electrifying performance, finishing first with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 50 seconds-a moment met with loud cheers and well-deserved applause.
Meanwhile, for those not on the road, there was no shortage of action. Fitness lovers were treated to a high-energy bootcamp session hosted by Mongezi “Stingray” Mqokeli, whose signature intensifies and crowd-pulling charisma had participants sweating and smiling in equal measure. Adding even more value to the day was a career guidance session facilitated by Ndumiso Phakathi from Nelson Mandela Bay University. Her practical insights and motivational words gave young attendees a boost of inspiration and direction, encouraging them to dream big and aim high.
“The support from the community, athletes, local businesses, and sponsors was incredible. The day was just about running – it was about connecting, empowering, and honouring a legacy that continues to uplift the communities”, said Ndoda Langa one of the organizers of the event. He said the LCM Ludidi Memorial Fun Run/Walk proved once again that when fitness, opportunity, and community come together, something truly special happens. Langa revealed that plans are already in motion to make next year’s event bigger.
