The Eastern Cape Premier Ocar Mabuyane visited flood victims in Skiet Informal Settlement and community halls. During his address inside the Butterworth Town Hall, last Tuesday, the premier reassured residents that the government is working hard at all levels to ensure that their lives are normalized. Residents reacted with applause and ululation when the premier announced that homeless people will be relocated to an alternative site where they will be accommodated in temporary residential units while waiting for RDP houses. “SASSA is also on the ground to ensure that displaced victims get meals all day round”, said Mabuyane. He expressed his gratitude to the members of the public and taxi industry for their generous donations of groceries and hot meals.

In his visit the premier was accompanied by Amathole District Municipality Nceba Ntsangani, Mnquma mayor, the mayor, Mr. Tunyiswa Manxila-Nkamisa, Council Speaker Monica Qaba, Municipal Manager Silumko Mahlasela and the regional executive leadership. Meanwhile, there was only one reported death in Mnquma, after a mud house collapsed on a 73-year-old man who was sleeping in Tyeni village, Ngqamakhwe.
