The Turkish Embassy yesterday, Thursday, 31 October 2024, officially handed over the Aselsan ICU-type ventilator machine at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha. The Eastern Cape Department of Health MEC Ntandokazi Capa officially received the lifesaving machine from Aselsan Managing Director Ozgur Cil.
The handover comes after the Turkey government heeded a call for the donation from a then Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital doctor. The official handover comes after MEC Capa accepted the donation in August with the Turkey government committing to delivering the machine in Mthatha. This is the first machine of its kind on the African continent.
