A 36-year-old Vuyo Tyeni was sentenced to eighteen years direct imprisonment by Mthatha Regional Court last Thursday, 12 February 2025 on a charge of rape.

The convicted rapist raped an eight (08) year old boy at Phase 2 – Bhongweni locality in Mthatha in April 2024. By the time of the incident the suspect closed the eyes and mouth of the victim with a cellotape and from that day the boy complained of pains until he revealed the rape ordeal he went through.

A rape case was opened which led to the arrest of the suspect on 30th May 2024. The Investigating Officer, Sergeant N Mdikane successfully opposed bail and the suspect was kept in custody until his conviction on Thursday, 12/02 by the Mthatha Regional Court to an effective eighteen (18) year jail sentence.

“Trauma and scars that the boy has endured may take time to heal but sentences imposed which will  act as a deterrent to would-be rapists to know that wheels of justice will turn in the victim’s favour when concrete evidence has been brought to court by the Investigating Officer. Meanwhile, OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana welcomed the sentencing of a man.
