A 42-year-old man from Mampondomiseni locality in Ngqeleni was arrested for possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition last Monday 30 December 2025. The arrest of the male suspect followed a tip off that there is a man who has firearms in the area.
Ngqeleni police pounced on the suspect’s homestead with search warrant and recovered a Star 9mm Pistol having two rounds of ammunition and a Flywheel Revolver without ammunition.
According to the OR Tambo District police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo both firearms have erased serial numbers with the suspect having no firearm licenses to possess such firearms and was arrested immediately. The suspect is expected to appear before Ngqeleni magistrate Court soon facing charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
