A small business from the coastal town of Port St Johns, Ngcambu Tours has recently hosted a successful Maritime Mastery Programme at 2nd Beach, Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape with the aim of conveying information to the youth. The event brought together Grade 10 and 11 Maritime students for an engaging experience. In this initiative Ngcambu Tours collaborated with various stakeholders, including Fisheries, ECPTA, uMzimvubu Young Minds, and Port St Johns Lifeguards.
In this event practical learning students participated inhands-on activities like kayaking and paddling. There was also safety and lifeguarding where lifeguards were present to emphasize the importance of safety and rescue techniques. The environmental education was in place which highlighted the need for responsible tourism practices.
Meanwhile, the Director of the company Sonwabo Ngcambu was pleased with the reaction of the Port St Johns community, young people and stakeholders who showed interest in supporting the initiative. He said Ngcambu Tours is eager in the near future to collaborate with other schools, offering students exposure to practical maritime activities. “The organization aims to provide experiential learning opportunities beyond theoretical knowledge,” he concluded.
