The Eastern Cape Department of Health marked a significant milestone in its efforts to improve healthcare centre services in the province with the handover of the construction site for the rebuilding of the Greenville Hospital in Mbizana, eastern Mpondoland. Greenville made headlines recently due to decaying infrastructure which prompted the provincial government to stand up and improve the situation.


In this project the department allocated the sum of R169 million for the rebuilding project that aims to deliver comprehensive medical care, including emergency services, maternal health and chronic disease management to local communities through a 100-bedded hospital. This project will feature new wards, staff houses as well as upgraded infrastructure, enhancing the hospital’s functionality and efficiency.


The official handing over was led by MEC for health in the Eastern Cape Ntandokazi Capa accompanied by Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Executive Mayor Daniswa Mafumba and Alfred Nzo District Mayor Vukile Mhlelembane.
Addressing in this handover, MEC Ntandokazi Capa, said as a department they took a stand to improve the standard of the hospital and ensure that the hospital is in a good and high standard. She revealed that the government allocated R169 million in phase one in an endeavor to facelift and restore the dignity of the hospital.
