The entire Eastern Cape is in turmoil following the gun down of Portfolio Head for Infrastructure Development and Human Settlement, who also served as the Chief Whip in Emalahleni Local Municipality. Xoliseka Bathandandwa Lali was shot dead this week in Komani, where he was residing.
Lali was found lying on his bed by his brother wrinkled with bullets. The cause of murder was still unknown, nevertheless by the time we were coming on print the investigation was underway and police called on to anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
The Emalahleni Mayor Cllr Nontombizanele Koni described Lali as a dedicated servant of the people who served Emalahleni Local Municipality with diligence. “His directorate was dealing directly with service delivery, as his responsibility as the Whip of Council was to ensure that council business is taking place as planned for the benefit of the people”, she said. Koni expressed her shock by this tragic incident which she described as foreign in their space. “I would like to request that we must remain calm even though it hurts to lose a young man with potential to serve the nation”, said the Mayor. She sent the deepest condolences to the family, community, colleagues and friend during this sad moment.
