The former mayor of Ntabankulu and newly elected chairwoman of the ANC in the Alfred region, Cllr Tsileng Sobuthongo, was recently elected as the new Executive mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM), effective immediately.
Cllr Sobuthongo succeeded Cllr Nomasomi Mshuqwana following her resignation from the office. Executive Mayor Sobuthongo brings a wealth of administrative and political experience to the role. Her distinguished career in public service includes serving as the mayor of Ntabankulu Local Municipality from 2018 to 2026 and as the Speaker of Alfred Nzo District Municipality between 2016 and 2018.
Prior to her political leadership roles, she served as the Corporate Services Manager for the Alfred Nzo Development Agency and held several strategic positions at Ntabankulu LM, including Manager for IDP/IGR and Municipal Performance. In her acceptance address, Sobuthongo committed to an accelerating service delivery agenda, identifying the provision of quality potable water as her primary priority.
She extended her gratitude to the former Executive Mayors ( Eunice Diko, Sixolile Mehlomakjulu, Vukile Mhlelembana, and Nomakhosazana Mshuqwana for their roles in stabilizing the district and fostering robust stakeholders relations.
Meanwhile, the council has further resolved to reappoint the Deputy Executive Mayor to Sobuthongo leadership. New Executive of the council was as follow: Whip of council-Cll Makhosandile Mphetshwa, chairperson of Infrastructure Planning & Municipal Services-Cllr Kabelo Sephuhle, Chairperson for Economic Development & Planning Banele Qwayede, Chairperson of Community Development Services-Eunice Diko, Chairperson for Budget & Treasury –Sobane Mnukwa, chairperson for Corporate Services –Nomvuyiso Msokana, chairperson for Monitoring & Evaluation –Nomasomi Mshuqwana, chairperson for Special Programmes Unit & Communication-Nophatheka Ndabeni, chairperson for Sports, Arts, Culture Heritage and Libraries –Mpumelelo Khuzwayo. The acting appointment of the Chief Financial Office, Sakhiwo Nelani was also extended for the next 3 months or until the appointment of the permanent incumbent is filled or whichever comes first
