Still no leads on WSU murder case.

There is still no arrest on murder case following the fatal shooting of a Walter Sisulu University (WSU) Vice Chancellor, Sinethemba Mpambane, on 19 June 2025. The incident occurred near the Nkululekweni entrance gate adjacent to the N2 highway on the WSU Mthatha Campus. After this incident the South African Police Service (SAPS) launched a murder investigation which was followed by the visit of the National Commissioner Fanie Masemola. 

In his visit Masemola assured that the police will work day and night to ensure that the perpetrators brought to books. He also revealed that there nothing taken from him during this amush as  Mpambane’s laptop was found still in his possession as well as the sum of R27000 cash. Sinethemba was discovered inside a stationary vehicle and he sustained multiple gunshot wounds while seated in the driver’s position. 

Meanwhile, the Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso stated, “SAPS has mobilized maximum resources to pursue all the leads. Public speculation must be avoided to preserve the integrity of the investigation”.
