The rural village of Godidi in the coastal small town of Centane was abuzz with activity over the Easter Tournament, as both young men and women took on each other on the field of play.

Dubbed the ‘Crime Tournament’, the event-a brainchild of local traditional leader and community activist, Chief Phathuxolo Tyali-achieved exactly what it was meant for: keeping youngsters away from illegal activities.

Tyali, who also doubles as Chairperson of the Mnquma Initiation Forum, was recently honored for his community development initiatives at the South African Traditional Leaders Awards (SATLA) in East London.

Sixteen teams participated in the tournament and the spectators’ included Land Reform and Rural Development National Minister Mzwanele Nyhontso, Mnquma Council Speaker Monica Qaba and the organizer, Chief Tyali himself.
