The Bhukuveni born in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape, Nkosinathi Kufa famously known as GUBEVU ZN (39), was a well-known character in the soccer fraternity across South Africa, as a staunch supporter of Kaizer Chiefs, whilst here at home GUBEVU was a supporter of Mbizana base team Sinenkani football club.
He passed in tragic accident last weekend on his way to Durban between Mbizana and Port Edward.
Gubuve met his death after attending Sinenkani match at Mphuthumi Mafumbatha stadium in Mbizana on that weekend.
According to Lixolile Petela, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Sinenkani FC, Gubevu, was not just a supporter to the team but an integral part and the embodiment of the values of the Stubborn Nation. “We have lost a dear friend, brother and a pillar in the support system of the 13th player of the Stubborn Nation. Indeed, the Stubborn Nation (Sinenkani FC) is saddened and broken by this untimely loss, but we urge the ‘masses’ to be strong and be supportive to his family. We will be there together in strength during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Sinenkani FC management and Kaizer Chiefs supporters joined hands to pay a courtesy visit to the family of late Gubevu earlier this week.
Meanwhile, a well-known soccer legend in the Mpondoland region, Doc Ntsizakalo Magic Ngalo, described the tragic death of Gubevu as a huge loss and unbearable pain. Ngalo also said that he regarded Gubevu as his young brother from other blood, as they were very close and normally do things together.
He said Gubevu played a cardinal role in uniting sport people in that region and is a huge gap to lose such people whilst the region is in a process to restore its dignity in sport, particularly in soccer.
The funeral of the late Nkosinathi Kufa took place on Sunday 29 March 2025, at Ludeke location in Mbizana.
