Rape suspect arrested after victim stabs him

A 35-year-old male suspect from the Hlabathi locality in Lusikisiki was arrested following the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman.

According to the police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo the incident took place on Sunday 12 April 2026, at approximately 18:30. The victim was walking to visit her boyfriend in the Gqibelana locality, where she encountered an unknown man. The suspect produced an Okapi knife, demanded sex, and proceeded to rape her.

During the assault, the victim pretended to be submissive. The suspect dropped the knife while raping her. She seized the opportunity, picked up the knife, and stabbed him twice in the neck and the suspect fled the scene.

A thorough investigation led the police to the nearest hospital, where relevant information linking the suspect to the scene was obtained. The man was arrested on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at about 06:50. Bloodstained clothing was found hidden under a bed in his room. He had two stab wounds to the neck. At the same time the okapi knife was later recovered at the crime scene.

The suspect is due to appear before Lusikisiki Magistrate court soon on a charge of rape.
