It seems as if Eastern Cape province is a destination for drug traffickers due to the number of incidents, where people were arrested for alleged drug trafficking. Over a month there have been two big incidents of drug trafficking in this province.
Hence the police in the Amathole District have increased the number of evening operations such as roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints on the N2 and other major routes in an effort to curb drug trafficking.
These efforts showed positive results following the arrest of three men on the N2 in possession of dagga valued over R340 000, and also seized a silver Grey VW Polo in Dutywa on Wednesday morning, 10 June 2026.
According to the police spokesperson Captain Majola Nkohli, between Tuesday evening, 9 June, and Wednesday, 10 June 2026, police with the assistance of the private security company as a force multiple manned a roadblock on the N2 near Dutywa. It’s when 15 bags of dagga weighing 69.325 kilograms with an estimated street value of R346 625 stashed in the VW Polo with three occupants.
Cpt Nkohli said the three occupants were arrested and charged for contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 149 of 1992. The three suspects aged 32 and 42 are expected to appear before Dutywa magistrate court soon.
