The Eastern Cape upcoming gospel sensation, Siphelele Lugwali lifted the flag of the province high during the Mzantsi Traditional and Cultural Music Awards (MTCMA), when he scooped the “Best New Comer” award. The awards which are brainstorming of Eastern Cape bona fad, Dr Nomdakazana Dlamini were recently held in Johannesburg.
Siphelele of “Hayo Matatha’ fame hails from the City of KuGompo, but now he is residing in Mthatha, where he is pursuing his gospel career. After receiving this prestigious award Siphelele was over the moon with this mammoth achievement in his music career. “I was ecstatic to win the award for Best New Comer, as an upcoming artist. The voting process was challenging but I overcame it through support that I got from people who voted for me. It was an honour and privilege for me to win such an award, and it means a lot to my music career,” he said.
Siphelele who has a Christian background started singing at Zion Christian Church at his tiny age. He moved on with his music career up until he reached a mutual stage that’s when he discovered his passion for music. He pursued his dream up until 2025, when he recorded his first gospel album “Hayo Matatha” at Blue Black studios in Johannesburg produced by Terrence Morgan.
